2011 The Best Nissan GT-R Features

Last year Nissan hit one out of the park with their 2009 GT-R. It won numerous awards including the 2009 Motor Trend Car of the Year, Kelley Blue Book 2009 Best Resale Value Award and Automobile Magazine's 2009 Automobile of the Year.

With the release of the 2010 GT-R Nissan seems to have done it again. Industry professionals and auto enthusiasts alike are gushing over this new "supercar". No wonder, it looks and performs like a rocket ship and has the genetic blueprint of a racecar. Its' handcrafted 485-hp twin-turbo V6 engine can reach 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a blistering top speed of 193 mph. The GT-R has a dual clutch 6-speed transmission with three selectable modes; normal shifting in less than 0.5 seconds, R-mode or fast shifting at 0.2 seconds and snow mode for gentler starting and shifting on slippery surfaces. The Nissan/Brembo® braking system - 4-wheel disc brakes, 15" front and rear two-piece floating-rotors with diamond-pattern internal ventilation allow the GT-R to stop as effortlessly as it accelerates. The double-wishbone front suspension and - multi-link rear suspension combined with rigid front and rear suspension subframes, give the driver a one-of-a-kind racing experience even if only driving around the corner to pick up your dry cleaning.

As you can imagine a vehicle with this much machinery and superior power is not even in the same hemisphere as economy class vehicles. The base sticker price is a little over $80,000. Upgrade to the GT-R Premium model for about $3000 more and get a hand polished Super Silver paint job, Bose audio system with eleven speakers and dual subwoofers, heated front seats and a near-black metallic wheel finish. All and all, what a small price to pay for a rocket ship.

A Nissan Silva Coupe with a Schizophrenic Personality

In October of 2010 we brought you a Toyota Soarer / Lexus SC that had been transformed into an abomination with a Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM front end and a Nissan 200SX rump. It was bad, but I still liked it better than the snooze-mobile that was the ‘91 Soarer / CS.

Well, from the same website that brought us that automotive mullet comes yet another creation that’s been refashioned into something else. This time its a Nissan Silva. This particular freak of coach building features a Mercedes-Benz rear end (or at very least the taillights) and Nissan 350Z front end. The result is less than impressive.

I don’t know what’s worse – the matte white that makes the car look like it’s still in primer or the cacophony of weird vents jutting out of the plastic snap-on bodywork. Despite the owner’s best efforts, the rear bumper clearly doesn’t fit, jutting out beyond the rear wheels and necessitating the addition of those awful rear bulges. Mitsuoka could do better with a Nissan Micra and papier-mâché.

Nissan to Sell Rebadged Mazda5 MPV in Japan

Nissan and Mazda said Friday that they are expanding their original equipment manufacturing (OEM) projects to include the Mazda Premacy, otherwise known as the Mazda5 MPV in markets such as North America and Europe. Under the agreement, Mazda will supply a "clearly differentiated version" of the Premacy to Nissan for sale in Japan, starting from May this year, the two companies said in a joint statement.

No pictures or other details have been released at this point, but given the short timeframe, Japanese buyers shouldn't expect any significant changes over the Premacy.

The two Japanese automakers are currently collaborating through a mutual OEM agreement, which enables Mazda to provide the Bongo Van/Truck to Nissan (sold as the Nissan Vanette Van/Truck), while Nissan supplies the AD/AD Expert to Mazda (sold as the Mazda Familia Van).

The production version of the GT-R debuted at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, launching in the Japanese market on December 6, 2007. The U.S. official launch was 7 months later on July 7, 2008. Universal Nissan in Los Angeles provided a customer with the delivery of a new GT-R, fresh from the production line at 12:01 a.m., on July 7, 2008. The Canadian launch was also in July 2008. Europe became the third consumer market, where it launched in March 2009. The large disparity in initial marketing between these regional releases is due to Nissan having to build GT-R performance centers where the car is serviced. Also the engine and rear-mounted dual-clutch gearbox are built by hand, thus limiting production to around 1000 cars a month.

The larger third-generation Nissan Altima went on sale for the 2002 model year, and for 2005 the Altima received additional interior and exterior upgrades. For 2007 an all-new fourth-generation Altima arrived with distinctive styling and is built on the new Nissan “D” platform with improved body rigidity and a redesigned suspension. Nissan 350Z:
The 350Z is Nissan’s modern recreation of the legendary Z-car, with styling cues from the original 240Z of the 1970s. The 300ZX was last sold in 1996 and the 350Z coupe debuted for the 2003 model year with the Roadster joining the lineup for 2004. For 2006 the 350Z received its first update with a restyled exterior and a refined interior. For 2007, the NISMO 350Z was added to the lineup.

Nissan Maxima:
The Maxima is Nissan’s flagship sedan that receives a redesigned exterior, refined interior and a standard CVT transmission for 2007. The sixth-generation midsize sport sedan last received a significant redesign for the 2004 model year with new styling and an increase in performance. The Maxima originally joined the Nissan lineup for the 1981 model year as a rear-wheel-drive sedan and received a V6 engine for the first time in 1984 before the second-generation Maxima switched to a front-wheel-drive configuration. Nissan has referred to the Maxima over the years as a "4-door sports car."

Nissan Versa:
The Versa is a 5-door entry-level subcompact hatchback that replaces the Sentra as the most affordable vehicle in the Nissan lineup. Built on Nissan’s “B” platform, the Versa name reflects the “versatile space” provided by the roomy interior and cargo area. Introduced as a 2007 model in 2006, a sedan version was available in late 2006.

Nissan Sentra:
The Sentra is Nissan’s entry-level sedan that was originally introduced in 1985. The fifth-generation Sentra offered value-conscious trims with unique style and feel, as well as performance-oriented trims. For 2007 the sixth-generation Sentra is completely designed and built on the new “C” platform featuring a longer, wider, and taller body. With looks that’s similar to the full-size Maxima on the outside, the interior is more spacious and the all-new 2.0-liter MR20DE engine has more horsepower. However the SE-R and the SE-R Spec V continues with the refined QR25DE 4-cylinder engine that produces 177 horsepower and 200 horsepower, respectively.
